PhilBrasil

– A philosophy article indexer

PhilBrasil is a non-profit portal inspired by the well known international philosophy portal Philpapers. The project started in 2012 with the conception of a small database for indexing philosophy texts that were translated to portuguese. At the end of that year, the experiment was moved to the www.philbrasil.com.br and had grown up to index not only translations, but also original papers and writings published in brazilian philosophy magazines, written by brazilian philosophers or philosophers that were acting in Brazil and portuguese papers in general.

In 2017 May, the portal suspended its activities for several reasons, including the lack of funding.
Although the expenses were not high, the project was always self-funded by its founder, Marcelo Fishborn, and its team. Along with this, the personal life concerns and professional occupations led PhilBrasil to end its first era with the following scenario:

  • More than 4 thousand indexed articles
  • More than 75 thousand of articles hits through the portal
  • More than 140 thousand visits
  • More than 1 thousand facebook page followers
  • Contributed by including brazilian magazines to Philpapers

By that time, the team was formed by Marcelo Fischborn (founder e editor), Gilson Olegario (principal editor), Carlos Gregoreki (programming), César Schirmer dos Santos, Rogério Severo, Vinicius Sanfelice, Juliano Barcelos Alves, Alison Mandeli e Renato Mendes Rocha.

The expected Rebirth

Since PhilBrasil contributed to the philosophy community in Brazil and was commented in several occasions, drawing the attention of the most notorious philosophy professors of several Brazilian universities, the team recognized that the project is worth another try. And then the portal started to be rebuilt with a new design and architecture from the scratch.

Nowadays, the development process is on the way and the final adjustments for a new version are being done. We hope that this will be a new era for PhilBrasil.
